Mission Statement

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers was organized in 1893, to advance the art, science, and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering.  For over a century members have included commercial and governmental practitioners, students, and educators of naval architecture, shipbuilding, and marine and ocean engineering.  

SNAME encourages the exchange and recording of information, sponsors applied research, offers career guidance, supports education, and enhances the professional status and integrity of its membership.

CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS

           An organization approved by the Executive Committee of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

PREAMBLE
       
      "We the members of STI - NAMEI Student Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, established to promote and encourage interest in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering studies, do ordain and establish this constitution and subscribe to the regulations and policies of the Institution and the Society.”

ARTICLE I - NAME

       The name of the Section shall be STI - NAMEI Student Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

ARTICLE II - OFFICERS


       The officers shall be a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson, a Secretary/Treasurer/Auditor, Public Information Officer (PIO), Website Master, and a Faculty Advisor. One officer shall be designated the Student Section liaison representative to the SNAME Western Europe Section.

ARTICLE III - SPONSORING SECTION


       This Student Section is sponsored by the Western Europe Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers.

ARTICLE IV - MEMBERSHIP


        All Student Members of the Society attending NAMEI Polytechnic Institute shall be members of this Section as well as members of the sponsoring section if otherwise eligible.

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS


        The provisions of the Bylaws and the rules of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and the practices of the Society with respect to the professional sessions for discussion of papers shall govern the procedure of the Student Section. The quorum for meetings shall be 4 officers present. The annual general meeting shall be held in second month of each academic year and a monthly meeting shall be held every third week of the month at NAMEI Polytechnic Institute when the quarantine is lifted. Special meetings may be called depending upon the need of the Society.

ARTICLE VI - COMMITTEES

Section 1
- Executive Committee. The Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary/Treasurer, Auditor, PIO, Website Master, Faculty Advisor and members shall constitute the Executive Committee and shall have general responsibility, under the Faculty Advisor, for the affairs and activities of the Student Section.

Section 2
- The Executive Committee shall appoint members to fill any vacancies occurring in the positions of the Officers of the Student Section until the next annual election.

ARTICLE VII - DUTIES OF OFFICERS


Section 1
- Chairperson. The Chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Student Section and of the Executive Committee and be responsible for planning and supervising the program and activities of the Section. The chairperson shall be ex-officio, a member of all committees.

Section 2
- Vice-Chairperson. In the absence of the Chairperson, the duties of the Chairperson shall be performed by the Vice-Chairperson. If the office of the Chairperson becomes vacant, the Vice-Chairperson shall succeed the chairperson. The Vice-Chairperson shall also encourage SNAME membership and assist with membership renewals.

Section 3
- Secretary. The Secretary shall have general responsibility for the correspondence of the Student Section and shall take the minutes of all meetings of the Student Section and of the Executive Committee. If the offices of the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson become vacant concurrently, the Secretary shall succeed the Chairperson.

Section 4
- Treasurer. The Treasurer shall be in-charge of the records and accounts of the Student Section and the collection and disbursement of funds. The disbursement of funds must be as approved by the Chairperson and Faculty Advisor. A budget shall be prepared by the Treasurer covering all expenses for each fiscal year. The budget shall be submitted to the sponsoring Section for approval.

Section 5
- Auditor. The Auditor shall have the general responsibility of auditing all of the expenditures of the organization. He/she shall be responsible in keeping and updating an inventory of all the organization’s property and shall certify the legitimacy and correctness of the disbursement of funds. He/she shall assist the Treasurer in formulating guidelines and financial reports.

Section 6
- PIO. The PIO or the Public Information Officer shall have the general responsibility of managing and organizing the Executive Committee meetings and all the arrangements related to the section activities.

Section 7
- Website Master. The Website Master shall have the general responsibility of taking over and organizing the NAMEI Polytechnic Institute Student Section page/website, in which authority in editing the page will be given by the SNAME headquarters. He/she shall be responsible in updating the page on events. He/she is responsible for the compilation of pictures and videos of the said event.

Section 8
- Faculty Advisor. The Faculty Advisor shall be appointed by NAMEI Polytechnic Institute. He shall be responsible for the proper operation of the Student Section under the Bylaws, policy and guidance of the Society and the sponsoring Section. He shall provide direction in the area of parliamentary procedure, meeting facilitation, group-building, goal setting, and program planning and maintain an awareness of the activities and programs sponsored by the Student Section. He/she shall be responsible for the continuity of the Section between school years and for maintaining the technical and professional excellence of the Section program and activities and for other matters as assigned by the NAMEI Polytechnic Institute.

ARTICLE VIII- ELECTION OF OFFICERS


Section 1
- An annual election shall be held in (2nd Week of July) for the purpose of electing the Executive Committee (except the Faculty Advisor). Terms of officers shall begin on the day of the Induction of officers, to be held during the General Assembly of the Student Section at NAMEI Polytechnic Institute (3rd week of July) and for a period of one year.

Section 2
- At least one elected Officer of the Section must have at least two Semesters remaining at NAMEI Polytechnic Institute so that his experience may be available to the Section for the year following his/her term of office.

ARTICLE IX - PARLIAMENTARY RULES


          The governing authority on all parliamentary rules provided for in these Bylaws should be the latest edition of Roberts’ “Rules of Order.”

ARTICLE X - ORDER OF BUSINESS


a) Getting the List of Attendees for the meeting
b) Reading of the Minutes of previous meeting
c) Special announcements
d) Committee reports
e) Stated business
f) New business
g) Lecture or reading of papers
h) Adjournment

ARTICLE XI - AMENDMENTS


           Amendments to these Bylaws shall be presented at a regular meeting by the Executive Committee. The amendments shall be brought to the attention of the membership by the Secretary in the notice for the next regular meeting, at which time the amendment will come before the Student Organization for discussion and action. A two-thirds vote by the members in good standing present at that meeting in favor of the amendment shall be necessary for its adoption. The amendment is subject to approval by the senior sponsoring Section and the Chairperson of the Sections Committee of the Society. A member in good standing is one who has paid his dues to the Society in accordance with the Bylaws of the Society.
Any member may suggest to the Executive Committee proposed amendments to the Bylaws by submitting in writing to the Secretary of the Student Section. Amendments proposed by five (5) or more members of the Student Section may be voted on at a regular Student Organization meeting, provided notice in writing of such proposed amendment has been made to the membership not less than fourteen (14) days prior to such meeting.

ARTICLE XII - FISCAL YEAR


The fiscal year for the STI - NAMEI Student Section of The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers shall commence on the second week of July and terminate on Third week of July next following.










4TH ANNUAL NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND MARINE ENGINEERING QUIZ BOWL

The quiz bowl was conducted by STI – NAMEI Student Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME). This virtual competition was held on November 23, 2020 with the vision to surely promote and encourage interest in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering studies.
