Membership Types and Dues
To apply for membership to the Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, please select one of the categories below.
To qualify as a SNAME Student one must be enrolled full-time in a college or university.
All students participating in maritime programs are encouraged to join SNAME. As a member, you receive discounts on books, a network of peers to collaborate with as well as mentors to learn from.

Associate Member
Associate Members receive access to the same features of membership as Members, but are not eligible to hold International office. It is not required to provide references, job history or education history to become an associate member. Associate Membership is a great way to take advantage of the features of professional membership while building up your career. Associate members who meet the requirements to be a Professional Member can apply to transition to a Professional Member at any time, free of charge.

Professional Member
In order to join as a Member individuals must meet the following requirements:
- A graduate of a recognized institution with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience with at least 2 years in responsible charge of work.
- An individual who is not a graduate of a recognized institution shall have had not less than 9 years of industry experience with at least 2 years in responsible charge of work.
- Provide 3 references from people who can personally attest to the individual's professional qualifications. The references do not need to be members of SNAME.

Associate Member
Interested individuals who do not meet the requirements to be a Member of SNAME but still want to join can join as Associate Members. Associate Members receive access to the same features of membership as Members, but are not eligible to hold International office. Fellow Members
The grade of Fellow is awarded to SNAME Professional Members upon a nominating process. Colleagues may nominate a peer based on outstanding personal contributions to naval architecture, marine or ocean engineering, or allied disciplines through significant achievements in design, research, production, operation, education, or associated management.
Honorary Members
Two Honorary Members are selected each year. Candidates are recommended by the Nominating Committee and approved by Council.
Life Members
Members who have been a member of SNAME for 50 years are awarded the membership of Life Member.
