Temporary Repairs and Their Effect on Mission Readiness

MSC operates a fleet of 130 vessels with many approaching the end of their planned service life. The engineering effort to maintain, operate and extend the life of capital assets routinely includes the design, risk assessment and installation of temporary repairs to meet mission requirements. Mr. Adams will be presenting on the engineering process used within the engineering community at MSC to design structural temporary repairs, calculate and understand technical and operational risk as well as providing examples of temporary repairs conducted over the last five years on MSC assets.

Speaker:

Horace Adams is the Head of Naval Architecture at Military Sealift Command (MSC). Horace holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Old Dominion University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia. Horace has led two Naval Architecture Departments over the last 10 years among working for NAVY regional maintenance centers, warfare centers and the Office of NAVY Litigation as a technical expert.
