SNAME SE Section Meeting: Applied Hydrodynamics Research at Florida Tech - IN-PERSON EVENT

When:  Apr 18, 2024 from 05:30 PM to 08:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Southeast Section

EVENT DESCRIPTION
The SNAME Southeast Section will be meeting at Florida Tech to learn about their applied hydrodynamics research. Florida Tech is focused on several areas: 1) Frictional drag quantification and reduction, 2) Seakeeping and ship motion prediction, 3) Global greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping, and 4) Ship maneuvering for simulation and training. The presentation will cover the recent work in these areas and planned future directions. The focus will be on the applied research and industrial applications. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the cutting edge of hydrodynamic research!

SPEAKER/PRESENTER

Dr. Travis Hunsucker, PhD

J. Travis Hunsucker, Ph. D. is an Assistant Professor of Ocean Engineering at Florida Tech. His research focus areas are shipping emissions, hydromechanics, frictional drag of biofouling, and seakeeping. He has worked with the US Navy, IMO, NASA, various shipping/Oil and Gas firms, and multiple coating companies. As the director of the Hydromechanics and Naval Architecture Lab at Florida Tech, Professor Hunsucker and his research group are currently studying hydrodynamic field testing for fouling control coatings, quantification of resistance and efficiency at full scale on ships, dynamics of spacecraft recovery, and uncertainty estimations for data derived from shipping.
