Welcome to the first installment of my blog. Eventually these posts will be fuill of wisdom and tips for Webmasters, and preview guidelines which will be included in the to-be-developed SNAME Microsite Webmaster's handbook and style guidelines. That project is still a few weeks away.
Right now I am deeply involved with Project Voyager Sea Trials. So, until SNAME.org is ready for robust microsite development, I will be using this blog to update folks on where we are, where we hope to be, and when.
It is easy to tell you where we are right now -- bug city. The most pressing have to do with access to the site. There are more than one problem with logons. Once you are logged on, there is no guarantee that your comments, edits, and editions will survive. I have signed up for the Web Liaison group 3 times now, and have logged on to see that I am not listed in the group in my profile. Others have reached out to me to say completed fields to their profiles are not sticking when logging out and then logging back in, and there are other problems. I'd like to get the microsites in a position to help webmasters do their jobs. Because I have some experience with the tools, I can get a microsite in a good position (see my example site,
http://www.sname.org/SNAME/ArcticSection/Home/ for a vision of what a section webmaster will be able to do) but we are a few weeks away from having the template ready for robust web rendering.
BUT THIS IS ALL TO BE EXPECTED!
For me, this week is about exploring the new site, getting members up to speed, cataloging bugs, and working with the vendors to achieve a version closer to perfection. When the bugs are killed, we will be able to make the interface easier for all to use.
Happy Voyaging & Thank you for subscribing to my blog!
