On June 11,  Harry Ren, principal naval architect with Diamond Offshore Drilling and past chair of the SNAME Texas Section presented a reprise of the Best Paper by a SNAME Author award winning paper “Execution of New Drillship Project – Perspectives from Owner, Class, Builder and Designer” which was presented at the 2013 Offshore Technology Conference in 2013

The paper was present to a packed house of over 150 members of SNAMES and SNAME at the National University of Singapore, NUS and a lively question and answer session followed the presentation.

Professor Yoo Sang Choo, president of the Singapore Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, SNAMES, organized the event which represents another step in the continuing close cooperation between the our professional bodies and a strengthening of the Singapore-Houston axis for naval architects and offshore engineers.

In that regard another Singapore-Houston event is being planned with SNAME involvement.  A delegation of some 20 naval architecture and marine engineering students along with some attending faculty from Ngee-Ann Polytechnic in Singapore will make a 2 week trip to Texas to learn more about the offshore industry.  SNAME Texas Section members are arranging site visits to companies and institutions such as ABS, ConocoPhillips, AmFELS Shipyard, Ocean Star Offshore Museum, Bennett Associates, NOV, Cameron Industries, to name a few.  The SNAME Texas Section Young Professionals are also involved and are planning a social event to meet and greet the Singaporean students during their stay in Houston.
