In this presentation, we will provide a foundational overview of marine hydraulic fluid power and explore the applied engineering behind hydraulic cylinders, power units, and complex piping networks. We will discuss how to design these systems to meet stringent Classification Society and client requirements while operating in harsh marine environments, and finally dive into the real-world reliability and maintenance challenges facing centralized HPU systems.

Wenjie Zhao, P. Eng. Engineer III, Outfitting JSS

Wenjie is the Outfitting Engineer for the Joint Support Ship (JSS) at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards. He has over 12 years of specialized expertise in hydraulics, including 5 years specifically devoted to the maritime industry. Wenjie holds a Master of Engineering degree from the University of British Columbia and is a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
