Taking First-in-Class Electrical Design Through Build - VIRTUAL EVENT

When:  Thu, Oct 15, 2026 from 09:00 AM to 10:00 AM (PT)
Associated with  Canadian Pacific

EVENT DESCRIPTION

Designing and delivering a first-in-class vessel presents unique engineering and production challenges, particularly in the electrical discipline. Drawing from nearly a decade of experience at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards, this webinar will provide practical insights into the strategies, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives that have supported the successful design, construction, testing, and delivery of complex vessel programs.

Attendees will gain valuable perspectives on how the electrical engineering team navigated the build phases of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy projects, including Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels and the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel. The presentation will also highlight current innovations and process improvements being applied to the Polar Icebreaker program currently under construction.

This webinar will be particularly relevant for naval architects, marine engineers, shipbuilders, project managers, production professionals, and students interested in vessel design, construction, and marine project execution.

SPEAKER

Ross Jespersen has worked at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards for the past nine years.

During the design, construction, and delivery of the three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels (OFSV), Ross served in a primary engineering production support role and later as a member of the Test & Trials team. During the build of the Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV), he was the Production Area Manager responsible for all electrical installations throughout construction.

Ross currently serves as Project Engineering Manager for the Polar Icebreaker program, where he supports the engineering execution of one of Canada's most ambitious shipbuilding projects.
