In this presentation we’ll provide a brief update on the recently-awarded Canadian Coast Guard heavy Polar Icebreaker at Vancouver Shipyards, explore the different types of winterization notations, discuss how the Polar design fulfills the -50°C operational requirements, and dive into the challenges of sourcing equipment that functions reliably and consistently at these low temperatures.

Jess Fetterman P. Eng., Chief Engineer - Polar Icebreaker
Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards
Jess Fetterman is the Chief Engineer for the Polar Icebreaker project at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards. With 20+ years of maritime engineering experience spanning design, construction, and in-service support, she has worked a variety of Canadian Coast Guard, US Navy, US Coast Guard, and commercial projects. Jess holds a BSE in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan, and is a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
