SPH Method and Its Applications to Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

When:  Jan 24, 2022 from 09:00 PM to 10:30 PM (EET)
The correct time zone for this event is EEST (UTC +3)

Presented by the SNAME Turkey Community
Registration will close end of the day on January 23.

Due to its intrinsic capabilities in solving problems involving highly nonlinear deformation of interfaces like free-surface, the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method has received remarkable attention from the scientists and engineers working in marine, naval architecture, coastal and ocean engineering fields since the beginning of the millennium. Taking advantage of having a Lagrangian and particle-based spatial discretization approach, SPH became one of the best alternative computational techniques to the conventional mesh-based methodologies while solving specific engineering problems. In this online event, after presenting a brief introduction to SPH fundamentals, the examples of SPH implementations to various violent free-surface and channel flows will be stated together with the blending of the speaker's personal academic/industrial career development story.

Speaker Name and Bio
Dr. Murat ÖZbulut
Murat Özbulut was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1983. He received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in 2006, 2008, and 2013, respectively, from the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Istanbul Technical University. During his M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies, he worked as a research assistant in the faculty. After working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Sabanci University (2013-2016), he began to work at the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Piri Reis University, as an Assistant Professor (2016-2021). He has been at the University of Southampton and Ecole Centrale de Nantes as a visiting researcher during his Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies.
He has been developing SPH-based computational codes and algorithms for more than 15 years. He recently has started working as a CFD Software Developer at Altair nanoFluidX (Munich, Germany), a department based on developing an SPH solver for modeling challenging industrial problems.
