AN INVESTIGATION ON MARINE TYPE CARBON CAPTURE AND STORAGE SYSTEM
Abstract:
Reducing CO2 emissions has become more important over time to mitigate global warming. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted rules and regulations to limit greenhouse gas emissions from international maritime activities, and these rules are expected to become more restrictive in the future. There are various methods and technologies to control emissions from ships. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems are effective methods for controlling CO2 emissions. For this reason, studies on CCS systems for ships have increased their popularity recently. However, despite the highly effective results in reducing CO2 emissions, the use of the CCS system has some disadvantages due to thermal energy and power requirements and their cost. This study presents the effects of different design parameters on the feasibility of marine CCS systems. Additionally, the integration of CCS systems with other systems such as fuel cells, ORC systems and etc. has also been considered. The results are presented and discussed for different ship types.
