Presented by Turkey Community | Industry Talks Series #3 | Computational Studies of Dynamic Instability for High-Speed Planing Hull Maneuvers and Full Throttle Acceleration with Engine Curves
EVENT DESCRIPTIONThis technical webinar will present a computational investigation of dynamic instability phenomena observed in high-speed planing hull maneuvers and full throttle acceleration scenarios, including the role of engine curves in performance analysis. The session will highlight key engineering topics including:• Hydrodynamic behavior of high-speed planing hulls under maneuvering conditions• Computational methods for analyzing dynamic instability in marine vessels• Full throttle acceleration modeling and engine curve integration• Self-propulsion, wave interaction, and turning performance of planing hulls• Numerical approaches in ship hydrodynamicsA short Q&A session will follow the presentation.
SPEAKER/PRESENTERDr. Deniz ÖztürkPostdoctoral Researcher, University of Iowa IIHR-Hydroscience & EngineeringDr. Deniz Ozturk graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Department in 2016. She completed her master's degree in the Department of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering at ITU in 2019 and her Ph.D. in 2023.She has been a research assistant at the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at ITU since 2017. She studied experimental and numerical investigation of maneuvering characteristics of a modern surface combatant in regular waves in her Ph.D. thesis. Ozturk also worked as a researcher at ITU Ata Nutku Ship Model Testing Laboratory. She continues her studies on numerical methods with applications in ship hydrodynamics as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Iowa IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering in the USA. Her work includes studies on displacement vessels and high-speed planing hulls, with emphasis on self-propulsion, wave interaction, maneuvering, and turning performance.
