We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2023 Winter Meeting of the Great Lakes/Great Rivers Section! The event will be held at Aloft Downtown Cleveland with two exciting days of events. 

  • Wednesday, February 22

Afternoon 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST: SNAME is partnering with the non-profit Argonaut and the Davis Aerospace & Maritime High School to host high school students who are interested in the maritime field. SNAME members and maritime professionals will hold informal round table events where they will share their experiences with students as well as answer questions. Please let us know if you are interested in participating!

Evening 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM EST: The evening reception at the hotel, in Riviera B & C, is a great time to network with fellow SNAME members and meet new contacts. Two drink tickets and hors d'oeuvres provided with a cash bar available.

8:50 AM – 3:35 PM         A full slate of technical presentations including:

      • Joseph Rousseau, Director of Offshore Technology, American Bureau of Shipping will present an “Overview of Onboard Carbon Capture Technologies and Applications”
      • Dr. Richard Stewart and Dr. Daniel Rust, University of Wisconsin-Superior will present results from their recent study “Great Lakes Maritime Commerce: Modeling Impacts from an Extended Shipping Season”
      • Al Horsmon, Consultant with Scott Bader will present on “How Tricky Carbon Details Make Composite Yachts Possible”
      • Chris Latta, VP of Binsfield Engineering presenting on IMO 2023 EEXI and CII implications on vessel monitoring and reporting
      • LCDR Joseph P. Burgess, Assistant Chief, Inspections & Investigations Branch at USCG presenting on stability and fire response, including the Roger Blough forensics
      • Zach Duval, Connor Brown, Nathaniel Nelson, Minh-Quan Nguyen, Drew Fechter, Kiernan O'Connor, all students at the University of Michigan, will present a design study of a low or zero-carbon Great Lakes freighter
      • Dr. Michael Bernitsas, University of Michigan, will present on the VIVACE Converter as a source of renewable marine energy

Afternoon Brewery Tour and Happy Hour 4:00 PM EST: At Great Lakes Brewery. Tour and transportation are an additional cost of $25 that can be purchased with registration.
