The SNAME Greek Section is pleased to invite you to its fifth webinar for the 2021-2022 season where George Bourtoulis, Senior Consultant, will make a presentation on the topic of “Poor Practices in Shipmanagement”.

Ship management companies of Greek interest account for about 20% of the world tonnage. Although this is a great achievement, it can be even higher! How this can be accomplished? The practice of recruiting, training, engaging, and retaining employees to optimize their talent and maximize their productivity must be improved. Leadership is a keyword. The role of each department should be clear and according to their managers’ practices, the projects must be assigned fairly and correctly, teamwork is to be promoted, KPIs should be established and if achieved, the credit must be shared among the employees in a fair manner, budget is to be kept faithfully, the working environment ashore and onboard must be employee-friendly.  The Owners should share their vision with their employees.  Poor practices onshore, as well as onboard, should change and be corrected so that it comes to a smooth, enjoyable, and cost-effective result.  Getting work done is only a point and just the beginning. Creating workplaces that encourage people, motivate them, and help them bring their best selves to work goes far beyond mere task allocation.  A better retention rate is a “must” for shipping companies.  The improvement of several procedures including their employees’ productivity and efficiency is beneficial for the ship management, as it will provide the Owners with the strong pillars to feel confident and “get into the trouble” to invest their well-saved dollars in additional fleet.
