A submerged floating tunnel is a newly developed solution for deep-water and long-distance crossings. It consists of a tunnel floating at a certain submergence depth and a mooring system for the stationary-keeping purpose. Despite its potential advantages, such as reduced wave loads and higher safety against earthquakes, the structure's actual construction is not reported because most studies are indeed in the preliminary stage. The detailed analyses with the advanced methodologies should be completed before installation. Our research group develops the coupled time-domain dynamics simulation program to perform a global performance of the submerged floating tunnel under various environmental and moving-train loads, which will be presented and discussed.

Dr. Chungkuk Jin, Texas A&M University

Dr. Chungkuk Jin is currently a research assistant professor in the Department of Ocean Engineering at Texas A&M University since October 2020. He also earned his Ph.D. degree from Texas A&M University in 2019. His research interests include ocean infrastructures, such as floating bridge and submerged floating tunnel, wave energy converter, hydro-elasticity, and ocean monitoring system.
