Decarbonization has become ubiquitous in shipping circles. This webinar will aim to cover the big-ticket policies and initiatives related to shipping decarbonization and what they mean in terms of climate alignment. Topics covered will include the outcomes of MEPC 76 and 77, COP 26 and initiatives such as the Science Based Targets, Sea Cargo Charter and Poseidon Principles. All of this will inform an attempt to understand what the future of the industry needs to look like to meet Paris Agreement, EU and IMO targets.


SPEAKER
Jean Marc Bonello, a consultant at UMAS International who is a lead author of the Sea Cargo Charter, the Science Based Targets Initiative maritime transport tool and a co-author of the Fourth IMO GHG Study. He holds a Ph.D. in Transport and Energy from University College London where he was also chair of the UCL SNAME Student Section. His research at the UCL Energy Institute involves investigating vessel performance data for decision-making related to chartering as well as research on owner-charterer relationships regarding the uptake of energy efficiency technologies in shipping towards emissions reduction. He has an MSc in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture from the University of Southampton and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta. His work experience includes design and consultancy in mechanical building services as well as naval architecture EPC consultancy in the oil and gas industry.
