Decarbonising Ships (IMO 2050) by Ed Fort, Lloyds Register

ABSTRACT:

It is now almost universally recognized that shipping is on a decarbonization heading. The speed of travel now needs to be established. This presentation will take a look at the ongoing deliberations at the IMO, some technical challenges that will need to be overcome on route and some technology development projects which should improve visibility on route.

BIOGRAPHY:
Edward Fort is currently Head of Engineering, Marine and Offshore at Lloyd's Register. He has almost 40 years engineering experience in sectors as diverse as marine and aerospace. He began his career as a seagoing engineer cadet serving onboard oil tankers and product carriers. He has hands-on experience in research and development, design, manufacturing and testing, operations and maintenance, primarily in the areas of energy storage and power generation. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and routinely represents Lloyd’s Register in national and international fora.
