    Hello Everyone,

After successful events (Mari-tech & UBC student design Celebration), SNAME CP is back with another interesting presentation on Technologies for reducing green house  gas emissions from ferries . PFB more details about the event:

Abstract: Globally the International Maritime Organization aims to halve greenhouse gas at least (GHG) Emissions by 2050. In addition, the Canadian Marine Industry faces increased operating costs due to fuel and emission reduction requirements. The search for zero-carbon fuels and more fuel-efficient vessels is on course to make transporting trade by sea cleaner more efficient and cost-effective. However, as with any large-scale industry transition, success will not come quickly or without significant disruptions that pose unique, unprecedented challenges and opportunities. With ferries being the lifeline for coastal communities across Canada, the cost of building new ferries is also an increasingly significant problem in the diminishing allocation of funds to acquire new ferries, the phenomenon observed from the age of many of the Ferries across Canada. This presentation explores different propulsion design options and identifies various fueling options compared to the existing ferry designs in Canada and internationally. These include batteries, fuel cells, DC Switchboards, multi-fuel engines (Liquid/Gas), azipods, and fast charging systems.  Some other project highlights include design elements relating to: 1-Reducing underwater radiated noise;  2-Summarising and evaluating the three main fuel pathways that meet propulsion and emissions standards:    1) light gas fuels, 2) heavy gas fuels, 3) bio/synthetic fuels; 3-Identify high efficiency &; low emissions propulsion technologies with the possibility of Hybrid designs, allowing for future expansion to fully electric. The presentation refers to specific progress examples.
