Meeting Report on Diploma Thesis Presentations made by four graduates of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens at the Greek Section’s Technical Meeting on 21 January 2016

During the Greek Section’s fifth technical meeting for the 2015-2016season on 21 January 2016 four graduates of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens presented their diploma theses that they had completed in 2015.

The speakers represented different school divisions and their presentations focused on different aspects of N.A.M.E. Their names are listed in alphabetical order:

  1. Doussia, Georgia: "Numerical Analysis of Parametric Roll Resonance of a Containership in Nonlinear Longitudinal Seas". Supervisor Prof. Spyrou
  2. Foteinos, Michael: "Ship Hull Fouling Estimation by Means of Power Calculation Using Engine Model and Measured Data". Supervisor Prof. Kyrtatos
  3. Lazaratou, Eleni: "Waste Heat Recovery on LNG Carrier with Trifuel Diesel Electric Propulsion Using a Dual Loop Rankine Cycle". Supervisor Prof. Frangopoulos
  4. Makris, Dimitrios: "Parametric Modelling and Optimization of the Hydrodynamic Performance of Fast Passenger Ship". Supervisor Prof. Grigoropoulos

A ten (10)-member committee that comprised the local section’s Executive Committee members, academics and shipping industry representatives assessed them by focusing on their originality, content and contribution to science. Eleni Lazaratou’s presentation was agreed that it outweighed the other three and she received the prize of €300.00. The other three graduates received a copy of Stability and Safety of Ships: Risk of Capsizing by V.L. Belenky & N.B. Sevastianov as a gift.

Following the presentations, a Vassilopita was cut for the turn of the year and the winner of the coin was a NTUA student member, who received the Greek Section’s gift to the authors, a silver coated paper weight.  The post-meeting reception was held on the premises of Maran & Alpha Tankers.

The meeting was attended by six (6) non-members and twenty seven (27) members including students and professionals.
