‘‘Newbuilding Process, Quality Standards, the Class Role and the N/B Market Today’’

On May 26th, 2011 the eighth monthly technical meeting of the Greek Section for the 2010-2011 season took place in front of 90 persons, which was an all time capacity audience, the highest in the nine year history of the Section.

At the meeting Messrs. George Chalkias of Gains Inc., Stavros Hatzigrigoris of Maran Tankers Management Inc., John Kokkarakis of Bureau Veritas and Petros Lalangas chairman of the Greek Section, spoke on the subjects of:

‘‘Newbuilding Process, Quality Standards, the Class Role and the N/B Market Today’’

The authors covered the following main topics concerning the current shipbuilding practice primarily in the Far East: The N/B process through basic milestones from the building specification and contract to construction and delivery; Quality control standards as practiced and as required by IACS directive no 47 mainly for fabrication, fairness, welding and for painting as required by the PSPC; The classification role in the development of the N/B rules and specifications, in the plan approval and in the construction; the N/B market today & historically, the shipyard costs & ship price comparisons among Far East shipyards  and the short term future prospects.

The meeting was concluded with a nice reception in a packed Maran Tankers reception hall
