Dr. Eleanor Kirtley talked about Green Marine, the leading sustainability certification program for the maritime industry. Founded in 2007, Green Marine certifies: ship owners, shipyards, ports, and terminal operators. The program’s scope addresses impacts to air, land, water, and communities. Participants earn their certification by exceeding regulatory requirements, achieving criteria as defined collectively by the membership, and committing to continual self-improvement. Each participant’s self-evaluation results are submitted annually and are externally verified every other year. The annual certification process culminates with the publication of the results and the GreenTech conference. Geared for ship owners and operators, designers, engineers, and environmental advocates; this webinar gave an overview of Green Marine, included Q&A, and invited attendees to keep in touch and get involved.
