Please join the Hampton Roads Section for a presentation by Dudley Dix and Kevin Agee, on the design and construction of the 27' center console DEDICATION.
Kevin Agee commissioned the design for a new boat from Dudley Dix in 2017. The concept was for a center console sportfisherman with a Carolina-style hull, with flared bow and tumblehome stern and outboard motor on an integral displacement bracket, for fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. This presentation documents the whole process, from initial design and 3D modelling, through construction, to launch and use of the new boat. Construction is wood, sheathed throughout with fiberglass skins inside and outside. Kevin built the new boat, named “Dedication”, with some help from Dudley and occasional labor from friends at critical times. The build quality is impeccable, the boat handling and performing above expectations.

Dudley Dix is a yacht designer, graduate of Westlawn Institute of Technology. He has designed professionally since 1979 after winning the Cruising World Design Competition as an amateur. He designs mostly cruising and racing monohull sailboats that are built by professional and amateur builders around the world. Also in his design portfolio are multihull sailboats and powerboats filling a variety of purposes.
Kevin Agee is a master mechanic and was boyfriend of Dudley Dix’s daughter when he commissioned his first powerboat design from Dudley. That was also his first experience in boatbuilding. After another boatbuilding project and two trophies from the Wooden Boat Show, he is now Dudley’s son-in-law and commissioned a much more ambitious design, then built it over approx. 2 years. After that build he resigned from his mechanic job and set up his business, Waypoint Marine Works in Seaford Road, Yorktown, in the shop that he rented to build his own boat. His company concentrates on rebuilds and rewiring of existing powerboats.
