Water and humidity are among the greatest challenges for adhesives.  Fortunately, ocean animals have been solving this problem for hundreds of millions of years; and we as humans have learned some of their techniques.  We will briefly review some of the adhesive systems that occur in the ocean and how the US Navy, Purdue University scientists and Mussel Polymers Inc, have moved discoveries in the laboratory to the marketplace, engineering and fielding commercial solutions for marine construction, repair and coral conservation as well as biomedical and construction applications.
