Paper
: Stability Assessment of Submarines with Varying Length/Diameter Ratios in Both the Intact and Damage Conditions
Abstract
: This presentation will discuss a research study carried out by Webb Institute for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) through the Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) program. The aim of this research was to investigate longitudinal stability for submarines in the intact and damage conditions. A series of four different length/beam (L/B) ratios were investigated. These candidate hull forms were evaluated for the surfaced condition with respect to transverse stability and longitudinal stability by the head and by the stern. Finally, the results of the computational study were analyzed and trends identified.
