EVENT DESCRIPTIONHow the forensic investigator goes about determining what failed, when failure occurred, what caused the failure, and who may have information that could help the investigation.SPEAKER/PRESENTERKen SmithBio:Kenneth M. Smith, Jr, PE is a Member of SNAME, and a member of the SNAME Marine Forensics Committee. He has a Master of Science degree (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering) from the University of Michigan, a Bachelor of Science degree (Naval Architecture) from the US Naval Academy. He is retired from the Navy after serving 22 years as an Engineering Duty Officer, doing ship design and construction duties, ship maintenance duties, and serving as a Salvage Diving Engineer. He has worked as a forensic investigator and expert witness on marine and safety related cases for over 25 years. He formed GOAT Forensics in 2019 in order to provide his services and the services of his associates to others needing assistance and consulting expertise in the fields of Safety, Marine, and Manufacturing. GOAT is an acronym for the fundamental forensics process of Gathering information, Organizing the available appropriate data and resources, Analyzing the events, and Testing the hypotheses as to the causes and factors that lead to the event.
