Ocean Wave Sensing and Vessel Motion Forecasting - IN-PERSON EVENT

EVENT DESCRIPTION
Situational awareness of the seas is crucial to safe and effective operation in the marine environment. Certain specialized missions are particularly sensitive to their craft’s interaction with the ocean surface and associated motions. Despite the stakes, modern operations are often still guided by centuries-old methods, relying on mariner’s visual observations of surface waves.

This meeting will present an overview of the FutureWaves radar system, an oceanographic tool for wave spectrum sensing and vessel motion prediction. The concept of operation will be described, along with the enabling radar, oceanographic, and hydrodynamic principles. Examples of use cases from the past decade will be shared, spanning several vessel types and missions. Discussion of future development opportunities and audience questions will follow.
