EVENT DESCRIPTION


The SNAME Young Professionals Committee, along with the EC of SNAME NTUA and SNAME UNIWA, is delighted to announce the 8th "Young Professionals Panel" Event.

The Young Professionals Panel is designed as a platform for young professionals to share insights into their roles within their organizations and the maritime industry as a whole.

The aim is to provide students and recent graduates with valuable perspectives and guidance as they embark on their professional journeys, share experiences that they have gained early in their careers, discuss difficulties and obstacles as well as connect with other young professionals.

After a short introductory presentation of each speaker, there will be an open discussion about different career paths driven by the Q&A session with the audience.

The panel will be moderated by Theodoros Kardaras, Consultant Marine Surveyor at P&P Marine Consultants Inc & Co-Chair of SNAME YP Committee. 

 

NOTE
 

After a short introductory presentation of each speaker, there will be an open discussion about different career paths driven by the Q&A session with the audience.


During the Event, there will also be announcements about the scholarship program for the next academic year, and other initiatives introduced by SNAME Greek Section.
 

After the Panel Discussion, a reception and networking event will be hosted, where the attendees will have the opportunity to interact and meet the panelists and other young professionals.

ABOUT THE PANELISTS
 

Dr Evangelos Avgoulas, 

Senior Manager, Bain & Company 

 

Evangelos is a Senior Manager at Bain & Company, a global management consulting firm. He has experience in strategy, performance improvement, operating model and M&A topics, advising leading clients in more than 10 countries, across Europe, Middle East and Africa. 

 

Evangelos holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge focused on advanced lightweight materials and structures. He also holds an MSc from Aeronautics Department of the Imperial College London, as well as an MEng in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens


Dr. Konstantinos Galanis
Director for Technical, Operations & Sustainability, Dido Shipping Co SA 

Chairman of the International Ship Recyclers Association


Dr. Konstantinos Galanis has over 30 years of professional experience. He is a Director at Dido Shipping Co SA for Technical, Operations & Sustainability. Since 2015 he is working on further upgrading the QHSE standards at the Group's ship recycling facilities included in the European list as the first ones in a worldwide level.

 

He is a Lecturer at the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Hellenic Branch teaching Maritime Economics, Educational Counselor and member of the Impact & Crashworthiness Lab for MIT, and Founder of Shipping for Kids.  He has also served for 8 years’ onboard ships. He has taught for several years courses related to Naval Architecture & Marine Hydrodynamics. 

 

He is a member of ABS European Technical Committee and ClassNK Greek Technical Committee. He has published several papers at International Journals, Conferences and events and has written several technical reports, projects and a book.  Konstantinos holds three graduate degrees from MIT, namely PhD in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering and Applied Mechanics, M.Sc. in Ocean Systems Management and B.Sc. in Naval Engineering. Since 2020 he serves as the Chairman of the International Ship Recyclers Association and is member of the BoD of MIT Club of Greece.

 

Mrs Rea Georgiadi

Director - Average Adjuster, G&B Adjusting Ltd

 

Rea is currently Director/Partner and Average Adjuster at G&B Adjusting Ltd. 

 

Prior to establishing G&B Adjusting Ltd., Rea was engaged for twelve years on a Average Adjusting Firm from Trainee Adjuster up to the level of Director & Partner. Her experience also includes working for a Greek Shipping Company and Shipping Business Development and Advisory Firm. 

 

Rea holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Technological Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Athens in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering. She has also completed the Professional Maritime Programme of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and she is an Elected Associate Member of the Association of Average Adjusters. 

 

Mrs Maria Kampasi

Machinery Surveyor, Bureau Veritas (Hellenic Plan Approval Office)

 

Maria graduated from Mechanical Engineering School of National Technical University of Athens in 2013; and in the same year she started her career in an IACS Classification Society. Together with my mechanical experience, she did get the great chance to work closely with the Business Development and Regulatory Affairs Departments in decarbonization projects at their early stages. 

 

During these professional years, she also managed to obtain a Master in Business Administration from the University of Piraeus.
 

Since September 2018, she has been working in the Hellenic Plan Approval Office of Bureau Veritas, conducting New Construction machinery projects and coordinating diverse topics, with specialization in the Ballast Water Convention and New MARPOL Regulations.


During these past 10 years, the maritime sector has kept changing, facing major industry challenges. In this regard, her number-one priority is always to be present with non-stop technical and market awareness, putting her little stone to liaise the past with the maritime future.

Theodoros has been a Marine Technical Consultant & Marine Surveyor at P&P Marine Consultants since 2018. 

 

As a member of a specialized independent consultancy company, Theodoros has been appointed by shipowners/shipmanagers, underwriters, P&I Clubs or other Stakeholders to attend, investigate and report on the cause, extent and nature of casualty or damage, such as damages to main and auxiliary engines, turbocharges, boilers, gear boxes, shafting for various types of merchant ships. 

 

His diverse portfolio of projects includes Newbuilding & Drydocking Projects, Damage Repairs, Conditional Surveys, advisory on Technical and Operational Aspects for various Stakeholders, Pre and Post S&P Delivery Attendances, Feasibility & Techno-Economic Engineering Studies for Energy Efficiency Retrofits and Project Coordinator on Zero Carbon Emission Concept Designs.
