A Presentation from JB Turner, President of Front Street Shipyard.
On 28 September 2016, the New England Section visited Front Street Shipyard in
Belfast, Maine. Led by JB Turner, President and Manager of FSS, we toured the
entire yard and each building and learned about recent cooperation with the town
to jointly redevelop this section of the waterfront. Following the tour, the
group met at Darby’s Restaurant for a talk by JB Turner on past and present
design, engineering, and build work at the yard. Topics included a major refit
of a yacht, a complete keel redesign/rebuild on a large sailboat, and a
complicated engine replacement on a large private vessel. Discussion also
covered near term expansion of the yard to include another new building and
reinforced pathways to allow high-load transporter access.
