Fall 2017 Section Meeting (Chicago, IL)
The Great Lakes Great Rivers section of SNAME held its annual fall meeting on October 11 and 12 in Chicago, IL. Over 30 members were in attendance from a variety of maritime sectors, including students from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy student section. Attendees enjoyed an evening cocktail reception followed by morning technical presentations. Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) gave a presentation on the technical and operational aspects of its new Tier 4 marine diesel engines, followed by presentations on Subchapter M for towboats by ABS, USCG, and Southern Towing Company. Finally, a panel session comprised of representatives of ABS, USCG, and Southern Towing helped give members insight on Subchapter M from the perspective of a classification society, regulatory, and owner.
