Singer of the University of Michigan as the Editor of the Journal of Ship Production and Design (JSPD), a leading technical journal published by the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers. Dr. Singer succeeds Prof. Richard Lee Storch of the University of Washington who served as editor for nine years. The first issue to be published under the editorship of Dr. Singer will be the November issue. Dr. Singer is an Assistant Professor in the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NA&ME) department at University of Michigan College of Engineering. He earned a BSE, M.Eng, and PhD degrees in NA&ME and a MSE in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan. He conducts research in the areas of design theory, design optimization, and ship production. Dr. Singer is also the Director of the NAVSEA Ship Production Science Program and a Co-Director of the Naval Engineering Education Center. Dr. Singer is taking leadership of a newly revised journal. Consistent with the changes to SNAME journals announced in October of 2009, the Journal of Ship Production and Design has been renamed, reformatted and redesigned. Previously named the Journal of Ship Production, the Journal of Ship Production and Design publishes cutting edge papers on ship production as well as those papers on advances in ship design and related technologies previously published in Marine Technology and SNAME News. The quarterly publication is widely read by naval architects and the maritime academic community.
