SNAME Remembers former President Edward J. Campbell

The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is sad to inform members of the passing of former SNAME President Edward J. Campbell. Surrounded by his loving family, Mr. Campbell passed away Friday, October 8, 2010, at the Francis House in Racine, Wisconsin. He was 82 years old. Mr. Campbell joined SNAME in 1979 and quickly rose to become SNAME President for the years 1988-89. A SNAME Fellow and Honorary Member of the Society, Mr. Campbell was honored with the Land Medal in 1992 for outstanding accomplishment in the marine field. Professionally, Mr. Campbell served as Newport News Shipbuilding (Tenneco) from 1979 -1991 as President and CEO, and JI Case Company (Tenneco) as President and CEO from 1992 until his retirement in 1994. Within SNAME, professionally, and in private life, Mr. Campbell was devoted to advancing the art, science and practice of naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering and other marine-related professions. His volunteer contributions to SNAME and other organizations impacted many lives for the better. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring St., Racine, WI. Interment with full military honors will be held at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Town of Dover on Tuesday October 19 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, Countryside Humane Society, Bethany Apartments, St. Monica’s Senior Citizens Home. Franciscan Villa of South Milwaukee or the Salvation Army have been suggested. The American Diabetes Association is accepting online donations in memory of Mr. Campbell. The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers extends its deepest sympathies to the Campbell family.
