There are numerous opportunities where the application of 3D printing technology in the maritime industry could be useful to save the shipping sector. The adaptation of the novelty by traditional producers could be beneficial, in the essence of the ability that it holds to change business models and the current supply chains. Digital technologies, such as 3D print, require, though, a change of mindset and the ability to replace the usual linear thinking with a more exponential one. As a result, there is a significant elongation to the understanding of the technology and the technical training it would require, which, in the near future, should be minimized to the maximum potential in order to sustain a desirable financial prosperity in the industry. Once these challenges have been overcome, suppliers will question whether there is a way to survive the wave of digitization brought on by 3D printing.
