SNAME/CIMarE Joint Technical Meeting

You are invited to join SNAME and CIMarE as we host Mr. John Shaw, Manager of Engineering at Capilano Maritime Design, to present their design of a tug for Notigi, Manitoba.

Manitoba Hydro has operated two tugs and a barge at Notigi, approximately 100km west of Thompson, Manitoba, since 1975. The tugs and barge provide marine service on Rat River and South Indian Lake hauling freight and supplies and conducting debris removal at control structures at Notigi and Missi Falls.

Manitoba Hydro contracted Capilano Maritime in 2011 to complete a concept design report, a detailed design and technical specification and provide support during the bid process and owners supervision during the construction of a new tug and barge. In 2014, Oceans Industries was contracted to design and build the tug and supply to Manitoba Hydro at Notigi, Manitoba. This paper will cover both the design and the modular build of the tug as well as the transportation and reassembly at site. 

Please note the new meeting location at the St. Regis Bar and Grill in downtown Vancouver. In a departure from our normal format, each attendee can order freely off the menu and will be responsible for their own bill.
