Joint SNAME/CIMarE November Technical Meeting

Annual Student Meeting

You are invited to join SNAME PNW for our Annual Student Meeting on January 31, 2015 at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Marine Campus in North Vancouver, BC. The Annual Student Meeting is an opportunity for students from universities within the Pacific Northwest to give presentations about their past, ongoing, or upcoming research and design projects. It is a great avenue not only for students to promote their projects and receive feedback from industry professionals, but for everyone to be made aware of the marine-related activities going on within our section.

We will have presentations from UBC’s Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering program, UBC’s Sailbot team, UBC’s Capstone senior design program, human-powered submarine teams from UBC and University of Washington, as well as world-leading yacht designer Ron Holland.

Please note, since the last meeting update we have added a tour of BCIT’s simulation centre to get a first-hand look at some of the new technology used in training on-board crew. The tour will begin after all presentations have concluded.

SEATTLE - SNAME Technical Meeting

Courtney Bradbury and Will Ansell will present
Costa Concordia Salvage Project

************************************************************************************************************************

THIS MEETING HAS REACHED CAPACITY.  PLEASE CONTACT JESSICA TOMCZAK AT
Jessica.Tomczak@gpai.com or (206) 768-1515 TO BE ADDED TO THE WAIT LIST

************************************************************************************************************************

Nearly three years after the Costa Concordia maritime disaster off of Isola del Giglio, and after a herculean salvage effort coordinated by Titan Salvage, the Costa Concordia has been successfully parbuckled, refloated, and towed to the Port of Genoa for disassembly. This massive undertaking required advanced salvage engineering, with emphasis on addressing environmental concerns at every phase of the project.

Courtney Bradbury is a SUNY Maritime graduate with over 15 years of vessel operation and design experience. As the manager of Special Projects at Jensen Maritime, Courtney spent much of 2013 on site assisting with logistics, scheduling and engineering coordination. Will Ansell, also from Jensen, attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He spent his time in Giglio working with the Salvage Masters to develop the technical procedures used in completing the many stages leading to the successful wreck removal.
