Welcome to the Quarterdeck microsite!

The Quarterdeck Society is the student section of the Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineers (SNAME) at the University of Michigan. Our goal is to provide NAME students the opportunities to advance themselves professionally, gain a better awareness of our industry, build a valuable network of fellow students and industry professionals, give back to the community, and have fun!

Our officers organize events and programs throughout the school year such as corporate presentations, industry-related field trips, attendance at the Great Lakes/Great Rivers SNAME Section Meetings and the SNAME Annual Meeting, volunteer opportunities, and social events. Learn more about our professional, volunteering, and social events on our Events page. If you are interested in contacting us, please email quarterdeck2025@umich.edu or check out our Contact Us page.

About Great Lakes/Great Rivers (GL/GR)

The Great Lakes and Great Rivers section is a regional section of SNAME that includes the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Kansas, Tennessee, West Virginia,  and the portion of New York which borders the Great Lakes, and the portion of Pennsylvania which borders the Great Lakes and Ohio River. The Great Lakes/Great Rivers section is the parent section to the University of Michigan student section.

About Student Steering Committee (SSC)

The Student Steering Committee is a standing committee of student representatives that represents undergraduate and graduate students within SNAME. They keep students updated on SNAME news, and help and support the development of all student sections. The SSC also organizes new student programs and services to enhance student membership to ensure that the industry continues to grow.

About Young Professionals (YP)

For those in the marine industry who have recently graduated and understand the value of a SNAME membership in their developing careers, SNAME's Young Professionals facilitates opportunities to connect with peers in both technical and social events and provides access to other career resources. This initiative is the transition step from student to associate members.
