Jane Louie
11-year SNAME Member

Jane joined SNAME as a student member in 1999. She served as webmaster for the Virginia Tech student chapter and the Student Steering Committee before graduating and was soon recruited as the Chesapeake section's meetings chair and webmaster. She became a contributing member of the SNAP committee during Project Voyager and helped a number of sections and panels get their microsites set up.

In her role as the Chesapeake Young Professionals chair, she has organized events to keep young members engaged in SNAME. Mixing a social aspect in with industry-related opportunities, monthly events have included movie nights, a museum tour, and engineering-related community outreach projects.

Jane has made tremendous contributions to SNAME's online presence through her participation on the SNAP (SNAME New Access Portal) Committee.  Many of the adjustments made to SNAME.org, including the recent revision of the home page, result from her direct involvement.

Jane currently works for Gibbs & Cox and is a licensed Naval Architect in Virginia. After 4 years focusing on stability analysis, she is transitioning to leading concept designs and feasibility studies. Her role on the Ship Design panels gives her insight on the rationale behind regulations, as well as allowing her to offer feedback on the practical applications of those requirements.
