December 2009 Elly Maersk

Elly Maersk

The Elly Maersk, an 11,000 TEU container vessel  is, along with her five sister ships, the largest container ship in the world.  The Elly Maersk is also notable for being equipped with the largest engine in the world. Built at the Odense Steel Shipyard in Denmark, no other ships of her class are currently scheduled to be produced.

Numerous SNAME members serve among the people of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, designers and builders of the Elly Maersk.  These members include Dr. Jan Otto de Kat and a number of his Danish colleagues.

SNAME rotates the SNAME.org main banner picture on a monthly basis.  Members are encouraged to submit digital photos of the vessels, platforms and other craft resulting from member work for inclusion on SNAME.org main banner.  Only high-quality, horizontally oriented digital images of content with an obvious connection to SNAME members will be considered for inclusion.  All decisions on banner photos are made by SNAME Technical Director, Prof. Alan Rowen.  Members should submit photos with a short description to Professor Rowen at arowen@sname.org.
