Lars Rønning
14-year SNAME Member

Lars was introduced to SNAME through his mentor and father-in-law, Peter Noble, before even starting university. Lars joined SNAME as a student member in 1995 and was active in the student leadership at UBC, while attending PNW Section meetings regularly.

After moving to Texas, Lars met his next employer, Scott McClure, through the local SNAME section. "In fact, all the companies I have worked for have had a strong SNAME presence", Lars notes. While working for Scott he was asked to participate in the Texas Section Executive Committee. This in turn led to volunteering on international committees. In addition to providing excellent professional networking opportunities at both the local and international levels, the leadership skills gained has proved very useful in his professional career. "One of my many SNAME highlights so far was the highly successful 14th Offshore Symposium organized by the Texas Section. We had 175 attendees from around the world who all contributed to knowledge sharing and technology development on the topic of LNG. SNAME, with its enthusiastic and knowledgable members and staff, provides a unique opportunity for both professional and industry development."

Lars recently moved back to his native Norway where he hopes to use SNAME as a means of building bridges between the various maritime communities. He recently agreed to chair the Electronic Media Committee where he will guide efforts to use the latest technology to accomplish the goals of SNAME.
