Jon has 20 years of marine industry experience with seven of those years at Glosten; joining the firm in 2003. He participates in a broad spectrum of the firm’s naval architecture and marine engineering projects. His stability work includes ferries, research vessels, cargo vessels, tugs, and barges. He has supervised deadweight surveys and inclining tests and has participated in structural engineering involving longitudinal strength, scantling development, and foundation design.
Jon’s mechanical design work includes all aspects of systems engineering from conceptual design through testing and balancing. He has been responsible for the development of new systems, modifying or converting existing systems, preparation of technical specifications, design evaluations, and construction drawing review. He has served as project manager and lead marine engineer on vessel design and modification projects for the ferry system in Alaska, and the oceanographic community including the National Science Foundation.
Before joining Glosten, Jon spent 6 years running his own small marine repair business where he exercised his versatility and knowledge by managing a wide variety of construction and repair jobs including designing parts of structure. This practical experience has enhanced his design and engineering capabilities.
Jon joined SNAME in 2001 and is active in many Society projects. As chair of the Pacific Northwest Section, Jon eagerly looks forward to his section's hosting the 2010 Annual Meeting.
