The USS New York (LPD 21) was constructed at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems’ shipyard in Avondale, LA. It is the fifth amphibious transport dock of the San Antonio class. The ship was named New York after the state and incorporates in its construction steel salvaged from the World Trade Center. Hundreds of SNAME members serve among the people of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding; designers and builders of the USS New York.
SNAME rotates the SNAME.org main banner picture on a monthly basis. Members are encouraged to submit digital photos of the vessels, platforms and other craft resulting from member work for inclusion on SNAME.org main banner. Only high-quality, horizontally oriented digital images of content with an obvious connection to SNAME members will be considered for inclusion. All decisions on banner photos are made by SNAME Technical Director, Prof. Alan Rowen. Members should submit photos with a short description to Professor Rowen at arowen@sname.org. |
