2020-2021 COMMITTEE

Chairman:
Charalampos Demetriou


Charalampos is a 4th year undergraduate student at the University of Strathclyde in the department of Naval Architecture, Offshore and Marine Engineering. He has been awarded for the meritorious standards that he achieved during the first three years of his studies. During the first two years of his studies Charalampos was elected as the class representative of his class and throughout his second and third year has served as the Treasurer of UoS SNAME Student Section. Charalampos is also a student member of RINA and IMarEST and has attended various of their event throughout his studies. He has also served 14 months in the Cyprus Naval Command Headquarters of the Cyprus National Guard. His service in the Naval Command Headquarters has brought him even closer to his passion for sea and ships. Having lived his youth in a city with a great strategical importance to the international maritime trading routes, a great passion emerged within him to learn and develop a fundamental industry of the world. This and the love for the sea and ships lead him to pursue a career as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer.

Andreas Constantinou


Andreas is currently a 3rd year Undergraduate student at the University of Strathclyde as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer. He is originally from Cyprus. During the first 2 years of his undergraduate course, he has been awarded a certificate of excellence, which implies he is on track to achieve a First Class Honours in his final years. Andreas has been elected as the Vice-Chairperson in SNAME Student Section for the year 2020-2021 and is also a member of IMarEST. Spending his lifetime in a city, which has a large profit income from ship trading, he took advantage of his interest in the marine industry and chose a related undergraduate degree. Andreas has also served in the Cyprus National Guard for 14 months, which enhanced his discipline and team-working skills, as he was in charge of documenting confidential documents. Since he was a child, he has been a professional water polo player, which enlarged his love for the sea and led him to seek for a career as a marine engineer.

Ioannis Kornilios



Ioannis is a 4
th year student at the University of Strathclyde studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. From the first year of his studies he is actively involved with the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering societies at the department and he is a member of RINA and IMarEST. Moreover, he has served as a “Treasurer” of SUNAS during his 2nd academic year (2018-2019) of studies and as a “Chairman” at his 3rd academic year (2019-2020). By being involved with maritime activities from a young age and from working experience at classification societies and vessel inspections aided him realize the sheer volume of merchant shipping sector as well as the potentials available. That made him become more dedicated towards his target of becoming a successful marine engineer and fulfilling his future goals. In his free time he enjoys reading books, playing tennis, traveling, building electronic projects and flying light aircraft.
Treasurer:
Antonis Michail

Antonis is a 2
nd Year student in the NAOME Department, currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. During the first year of his studies, he was elected to be the class representative of his year, and he managed to do so by providing the staff and fellow students with suggestions to help the department as well as solutions to help tackle various problems that have occurred during the academic year. Antonis is also a member of SNAME, IMarEST as well as SUNAS, Strathclyde’s own Naval Architecture society, and has attended many of the meetings organized during the year. His love and passion for the maritime world derives from a very young age as he used to travel with passenger ships to the Greek islands. Moreover, as a teenager, Antonis volunteered in different sailing competitions because of the passion he had for the marine world. Also, his family background in the maritime industry had a major role in him improving his knowledge and pursuing his dream.
Communication Officer:
Panagiotis Panagopoulos


Panagiotis is a 4th year Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering undergraduate student at the University of Strathclyde. His interest for Naval architecture began due to a combination of factors ranging from the excitement and occupation of the family with the shipping business and the sailing school he attended for 5 years. Panagiotis has been a class representative for two consecutive years during his studies in Strathclyde. He is a very creative, social and hard-working peer. He has had the chance to work for the industry throughout the summer in Greece, where he was involved in several projects including the calculation of air emissions, the processing of EEOI and other performance indexes for Tankers and Bulk Carriers using MATLAB. His studies and technical experience have allowed him to gather a great amount of knowledge, enhanced his communicational skills and challenged his teamwork. His passion for the sea as well as his so-far acquired expertise set the stepping stone for a successful career as a Naval Architect and his thirst for more knowledge, experience and contribution will make him a beneficent member of the Student Section of SNAME.

Marcos Machattos


Marcos Machattos is a 3rd year student at the University of Strathclyde studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He is member of SNAME and IMarEST. It is his first time as a member of the committee and is looking forward to proposing new ideas and helping the organization strive. He has served the national guard of Cyprus for 14 months. He was also involved in the Europeam Youth Parliament as an organizer and head organizer in events. This has helped him in organizing events and bringing people together. His passion for the sea started at a young age as he lives on an island and even came closer to that passion as he started doing water sports and helping out his uncle with his boats and water sports business. During his free time, he enjoys as aforementioned doing water sports and going fishing.

Timotheos Pomonis

 
Timotheos, is a 4th year student studying Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. During the first and second years of his study he remained an actively involved member with the various Naval Architecture societies existing at the department. Having participated and observed most of the available societal activities, he decided to pursue a ‘frontline’ position at the Strathclyde’s Naval Architecture society, SUNAS, becoming the treasurer during his 3rd year of study. Timos was involved with maritime activities from a very young age. His work experiences at shipyards, workshops and onboard training has helped him realise the unlimited knowledge potential associated with the marine sector. This realisation, motivated and helped him from an early stage to always try to achieve his goals. In his spare time, he likes reading, freediving and exploring new places.

Charalambos Agapiou

Charalampos is a 5th year student, currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. He has been awarded for the meritorious standards that he achieved during the first and second year of his studies. He is a member of RINA and he is involved with the orchid program that provides counselling and help for more junior students. At the first year of his studies he served as an Anchorman of SUNAS while in the third and fourth year has been an active member to the SNAME committee student section of the UoS. He also served two years as a Military Police sergeant in the National Guard of Cyprus. The love he always had for the sea and the fact that he is an islander turned him towards the maritime industry which has always been his childhood dream. The constant search for knowledge and passionate approach to every aspect of his life made him follow his dream in order to become a well-established Naval Architect.

Dimitrios Tsevdos

Dimitrios is a graduate student of the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering department of the University of Strathclyde. Managing to enter directly in the 2
nd Year of the course. He immediately got involved with Strathclyde’s Naval Architecture Society (SUNAS), becoming the “treasurer” for the academic year 2016-2017 while his involvement with the SNAME committee began in 2017. Dimitrios started as the “secretary” of the society, gaining the title of “vice-chairman” during his second year in the UoS SNAME and finally becoming the “chairman” of the committee during the academic period of 2019-2020. His love for the sea and the maritime world derives from a very young age, as he traveled every year to the Greek island of Chios and were developed even further as he participated in double sculls rowing competitions during his teenage years.
